Mad Cave Studios Launches Nakama Press: A New Era for Global Manga Storytelling

Recently, a new all-ages manga imprint has been launched by Mad Cave Studios, named Nakama Press. This announcement was made public through a news article by Popverse. Nakama Press aims to distribute original manga from various countries, planning to offer an array of titles, including manga, manhwa (Korean manga), manhua (Chinese manga), and manfra (French manga), along with some licensed works. The imprint will cater to both independent creators and established production studios, notably collaborating with Gatchaman creators Tatsunoko Production.

As expressed by Mark Irwin, the president of Mad Cave Studios, Nakama Press's objective is to bridge the gap between readers and stories that have a universal appeal, transcending cultural differences. He emphasized the importance of storytelling in fostering connections among people and stated that this new imprint celebrates that idea through the vibrant realm of manga and graphic novels.

Irwin elaborated on the talented team of creators and editors involved, highlighting their diverse voices and perspectives that contribute to the projects. Nakama Press embraces this rich diversity, offering a captivating array of narratives that both entertain and inspire, resonating powerfully with global audiences.

If you are curious about the meaning behind the name Nakama (仲間), it translates to concepts such as "friend," "colleague," "companion," or "ally."

Details regarding the imprint's forthcoming plans are expected to be unveiled this Saturday. Nakama Press’s senior editor, Kristen Simon, and Mad Cave’s director of marketing, Allison Pond, will participate in the 'Manga-Inspired Graphic Novels with Mad Cave' panel during the 2024 Anime NYC convention. This panel is scheduled for Saturday 24 at 6pm in Room 5 of the Javits Center, New York.
