Nvidia's RTX 5070: The Controversy Over Overblown Performance Claims and Consumer Discontent
Mar-12-2025

Nvidia has faced significant backlash for its misleading statements regarding the RTX 5070. Earlier this year at CES, the company's CEO, Jensen Huang, showcased a new lineup of graphics cards, boasting impressive performance metrics. Among these was the budget-friendly model, the 5070, which Huang claimed would rival or even exceed the capabilities of the previous generation's 4090 models.
Now that the 5070 cards are in the hands of consumers, it is evident that those assertions were overstated. Prominent technology channels on YouTube, including Gamers Nexus and Linus Tech Tips, have expressed their discontent with the 5070, labeling its touted performance as a deception.
Additionally, Ars Technica added to the criticism, describing the RTX 5070 as underwhelming, revealing that its performance is only slightly superior to last year’s 4070 Super, all while drawing more power. Nevertheless, despite the widespread disapproval, the RTX 5070 cards have sold out rapidly, with the remaining units being offered at high prices on the resale market.
